GoDaddy CEO Marries

GoDaddy CEO Bob Parsons was married last Saturday in the Shenandoah Mountains of Virginia. His wedding made news because Charm City Cakes, famous for the Food Network show “Ace of Cakes,” created a motorcycle cake for the wedding.

Unfortunately Duff’s PR firm, Mission Media, favors eNom as a registrar and registered CharmCityCakes.com through eNom. Hopefully Bob doesn’t find out until after his honeymoon.

Sedo had a banner week with two huge six digit sales: Software.co.uk for $245,638 and Sudan.com for $120,000. They continued closing sales from the single character .BIZ auction from a couple weeks ago. You may also have a sense of deja vu because Sedo sold $1.1 million the previous week as well.

Sedo reported sales of 143 domains totaling $1,156,338 for an average sale of $8,086 with a median price of $2,510. The median price is a good indicator of where most of their domains were sold, and is commonly higher than other domain listing services. Entire list of domains follows.

In an e-mail to Sedo customers earlier this morning Sedo announced the Intellectual Property Management Company. This new company is alternatively listed as a subsidiary of United Internet Group and Sedo, and elsewhere as joint venture of Sedo and member of the United Internet Group. According to their website they offer services including registrations, transfers, and renewals for ccTLDs, gTLDs, and IDNs, DNS hosting, SSL certificates, and domain acquisitions through Sedo.

bcms

If you are like me, you probably have never heard of BCMS Corporate. I first heard about them from a direct mailing to my business advertising a free seminar in my area. Their seminar was titled “Selling your business for all it’s worth” and my first thought was that they were a small-scale private equity firm looking to scoop up businesses and assets for pennies on the dollar. I could not have been more wrong about who they are and how they operate.

Last Monday, October 12 the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center convened a conference in Geneva, Switzerland to mark the 10th anniversary of the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP). The UDRP is the most enforceable legal instrument for trademark owners to defend a mark when used in a domain name.

Sedo had a good week of sales last week with the total number pumped up by Resumes.com selling for $400,000 and the single character .BIZ domains. The international domains had a good showing with Tisch.de making the biggest splash, “tisch” is German for “table.”

Barnes & Noble

After the Wall Street Journal broke the name and other details about the new E-Reader from Barnes & Noble, I did some digging on the ownership history of Nook.com. It appears that the domain ownership was transferred on June 3, 2009 and it is probably not coincidence that a trademark for “Nook” was filed on June 4, 2009 by Fission Inc.

Sedo is continuing to sell large quantities of domain names. This week’s batch turned out an average price of $4,133 and a high price of $115,941 for Mutuelle.fr. Mutuelle is French for “mutual” and is synonymous with life insurance.

A misconfigured maintenance script meant to update the .SE zone file ended up breaking every domain in the .SE CCTLD. As a result all queries to the .SE top-level DNS servers did not resolve for about an hour. The .SE registry reported 834,004 registered domains at the end of 2008.
